As widely known, Bali has many nicknames which one of them is as a thousand temples island, and the fact is true that most of the people are Hindus, same like other places of religions worship, the temples in Bali is functioned as a place of Hindus for worship. And also because it has an element of history, architectural beauty and silence, and very peaceful, many temples in Bali are also much visited by local and international visitors as a tourist destination.
From many famous temples in Bali there’s one temple is situated in the middle of the island, at the edge of a beautiful lake exactly it’s called Beratan Lake, and the name of the lake itself is Ulun Danu Beratan. The village of this exist temple is located in Bedugul village,where the village is famous for cold air because it is located in the highlands, and the lake is formed by one of the two massive ancient volcano caldera which forming the island of Bali 50,000 years ago, the Lake Batur is one belonging.
Ulun Danu Beratan was build in 1556 Çaka or 1643 AD by Prince I Gusti Agung Putu of Mengwi, the Temple its self is devoted to the worship of the goddess Danu or literally be interpreted as the Goddess of being a symbol fertility and prosperity to the bedugul villagers and also it could be used for worshipping the Hindus main Gods Tri Murti (Brahma, Vishnu, Siva).
Because of the beauty from the temple, Ulun Danu Beratan is often immortalized on the canvas as a painting, as an objects to introduce the island to the world and Ulun Danu Beratan Bedugul also printed in denominations of currency rupiah Rp.50,000.
Ulun Danu Bratan is not only two buildings on the lake but also has a wider area and there are also beautiful gardens in surrounding and recreation stunning view.
To reach the Ulun Beratan can be traveled by car about 1.5 hours drive from Denpasar, from capital of Bali or 2 hour journey from the international airport Ngurah Rai.
